The truth about marketing is so simple it’s often overlooked.
Here’s the typical path most entrepreneurs follow when they start their business:
They invest hundreds or even thousands of dollars in…
Creating a fancy logo…
Building a flashy website…
And they spend a good chunk of time developing their service, product, or program.
They come up with an awesome offer and think, “This is it!”
They rush over to hang it on their website and blast an email to their list (if they’ve got one).
Then they sit back waiting for the clients to run in opening their wallets.
Hours pass, then days, then weeks, and…
Crickets.
No emails, no phone calls, nothing.
Here’s the problem: even if you KNOW that what you’ve got is absolute GOLD, your prospects don’t… yet.
PLUS you’re competing with every other Jane & John Doe out there who’s offering something that, at least on the surface, appears similar to what you’re offering.
If you try to sell to them before they’re ready, or before they’ve had a chance to get to know you (so they actually believe what you’ve got is gold) they’re not going to buy.
Here’s the truth about marketing: People do business with people they know, like, and trust. And they do business with people they KNOW can really help them.
Not with the business who has the fanciest logo or the flashiest website.
Think about it.
Do you choose the restaurant that you go to because you think, “Oh my gosh, I just love the color palette they use on their logo!”
Probably not. Unless you’re an oddball 😉
Are creativity and design important?
Yes. But they are secondary.
First and foremost, what you need is a clear message…
A message that resonates with your ideal customers and clients.
A message that makes them feel understood and that you can help them.
A message that captures their attention and builds trust with them.
According to my good friend, mentor, and client, Joe Polish (one of the top marketers in the online space), marketing is:
“Pre-motivating your prospect, pre-positioning your business, and pre-qualifying your prospect as a right fit, so when they are ready to buy, you have their trust and attention.”
You also need to build rapport with your ideal client…
How?
By delivering educational copy that will help them get more clarity around the area they need help with, get results, or some small “wins,” in advance, and connect with you.
As a result, you will be able to lead them to your offer in a way that doesn’t feel slimy, pushy, or salesy.
Imagine…
Effortlessly catching prospects’ attention…
Connecting with them authentically…
Converting prospects into customers…
And customers into lifelong raving fans who line up to see the next product, service, or program you launch so they can get their hands on it first…
Imagine charging 267% more than your competitors and still making the sale…
Marketing mastery isn’t just for the bigshots and entrepreneurs with multi-million dollar businesses.
They all started somewhere.
Remember: People do business with people they know, like, and trust. And with people they KNOW can really help them.
Period.
If you’re nodding your head or attempting to rest your hands over your eyes with the realization that this is the key piece you’ve been missing, it’s okay, you’re not alone.
You’ve probably launched an online course, written a book, or hosted an event.
And you know what would be even cooler?
If a ton more people actually enrolled in your online program, bought your book, and showed up to your event.
The key to achieving all of that is this (again): “People do business with people they know, like, and trust.”
Think about how you get to know, like, or trust anybody—in business or in your personal life. You get to know they’re story, what they’re really about. That’s what builds trust and rapport.
Marketing IS storytelling.
You build that know, like, and trust factor by infusing storytelling into your marketing.
We all have a story.
You have your story—why you started your business and are motivated daily to help others.
Your prospects have a story. They’re living it right now, a journey from where they are currently to where they’re dying to be.
The job of your marketing is to paint the picture, to show your prospect that you understand the journey they’re on, and to make them the main character in your marketing story.
That way, when they come across your message online, they’ll be instantly drawn in, your message will wholeheartedly resonate with them, and they’ll see YOU as the best person to get them to where they want to go.
So let me ask you this…
Do you know you have an AMAZING story, but you don’t know how to share it in an articulate way?
