Do you feel like your email list is taking FOREVER to grow?
When you sit down to write an update for your list, are you feeling uninspired because you know only a handful of people will actually see it?
Online, everyone is talking about the importance of an email list, how it’s the only way to actually get clients, make money, and grow your business.
You scroll down your list of 250 emails and you sigh.
Doubt invades your thoughts, “How am I ever going to sell anything if I can’t build a loyal following of interested prospects?”
You see all these “experts” talking about how important it is to get thousands and thousands of subscribers on your list yet virtually no one shares HOW they did it.
Maybe you think, “What am I doing wrong??”
Before you get down on yourself and start thinking that you should just close up shop, renounce your dreams, and go back to a 9-5 day job, here’s a reality check:
Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t all about size.
You don’t need tens of thousands of subscribers to make money and grow your business. What you actually do with the leads is what really matters.
Today, I’m going to share with you 5 simple ways to build your email list that you can start implementing immediately. So relax, you’ve got this!
But first, let me tell you, I know people who have lists of 10,000-50,000 subscribers who aren’t making any money from their lists, their open rates are practically zero, and they just come across as spammy.
When I started out in the online marketing space with my old fitness business, my list had only 300 people. Yet, when I launched my first online program, it ended up selling out in 48 hours.
How?
Because I used my email list to strategically connect with and nurture prospects (the people behind the numbers!) over time. They got to know me, I got to know them, and I gave them massive value for FREE.
So when I reached out to them with even greater value, they already knew, liked, and trusted me based on what I had given them for free in the past. Purchasing one of my paid services was the logical next step for them.
Don’t get bogged down by the size of your list. Focus on nurturing who you have now, so that when you have something great to offer them, buying from you will be a no-brainer. To do this, you have to WOW your ideal clients from the moment they opt in and receive your first email.

Now, on to the 5 simple ways to get leads…
5 Simple Ways To Grow Your Email List:
1. Sign Off With Your Lead Magnet
Anytime you send regular emails through your Gmail, Outlook, or whatever email system you use… sign off with your signature and put your lead magnet link below it.
A lead magnet is a free gift you offer in exchange for the reader’s name and email.
I use a plugin called “wisestamp” to create appealing signatures. Here’s an example of one of my signatures below:
Pro Tip: If you’re still using a @yahoo.com or @aol.com email, do yourself a favor and update that immediately…
Trust me on this one, if you want to be taken seriously as a professional, this detail matters.
2. Standing O to Lead Magnet
Any time you are giving a speech, whether it’s to 10 people or 1,000, offer a badass lead magnet that’s congruent with your talk.
Simply say, “Now I only had time to share so much in this talk. Can I offer you the {Compelling Titled Lead Magnet} so that you can continue to get results with this?
If you’re interested in getting it and learning more, simply go to {easy to remember URL page OR if you have a text service, get them to text a number to get the email}.”
That’s it. Now you’ve delivered them massive value AND opened the conversation to keep connecting with you!
Pro Tip: Be sure to check with the event organizer to confirm you’re allowed to do this at their event!
3. Pop It Up
Do you have a pop up opt-in on your website?
This will instantly increase conversations.
One of my favorites is Sumome.com. It’s super easy to use and there’s a free version you can sign up for to get you started.
Avoid a generic message like, “Sign up to stay connected,” or “Sign up for my newsletter.” Tune in to what your readers really need, and create a strong initial free offer to incentivize them. They may not be giving you their money… yet, but if you want them to give you anything—even something as seemingly arbitrary as a name and email—you have to give them value first.
For example, here’s our opt-in for Conscious Copy & Co.:
4. FB Ads
Of course, paid traffic is the ultimate way to get leads. But you need to have some basic knowledge about it before you start throwing money at it.
If you really want to grow and scale your business and make a big impact… Facebook Ads can help you get there.
You can create simple campaigns to reach a larger audience, increase engagement, drive traffic to your website, and get more subscribers.
5. Podcast Interviews
I’ve found a lot of success in getting leads from podcast interviews. Any time someone interviews me, I will create a custom URL for their podcast.
For example, after delivering a ton of massive value in my interview on the Solopreneur podcast, I invited the listeners over to www.consciouscopy.co/solohour to get “The Effective Email Cheat Sheet™.”
I got over 100 leads by simply including that offer on the podcast.
If you’ve never been interviewed on a podcast before, don’t worry! Getting started is easy. Research podcasts relevant to your field. Connect with influencers who offer services that are complementary to yours. This will result in a win-win relationship. They get to offer added value to their audience by recommending services they don’t provide (but their audience needs) and you get the opportunity to appear in front of a larger, already established audience.
I challenge you to implement one of these new tactics this week… which one will you try first? Comment below and let me know!
